A Sex Strike in New Jersey

Imagine that every heterosexual man in a community went on strike, refusing to have sex with women until certain demands were met. Never mind what demands; just picture it. How far you get with this thought experiment depends on the dogged ingenuity of your imagination (assuming you can conjure more than an abandoned picket line strewn with trampled signs). As plots go, it’s just silly. Reverse it, though, and everything changes. In Meg Wolitzer’s latest novel, “The Uncoupling,” as in Aristophanes’ “Lysistrata,” every woman, from those on the threshold of sexual awakening to those for whom sex is just a pleasurable memory, closes up shop.

The Expert at the Card Table

Awesome little book on card magic and slights. Amazingly, this book has been in continuous publication since 1902 and has a small but diehard following in the card magic community. Although most consider a lot of the moves contrived and archaic the magicians who form the core following are immensely loyal to the book and spend many hours studying it with great care and attention. I am probably somewhere in the middle. The book is very nice but there are goofs and limitations that keep me from be Awesome little book on card magic and slights. Samsung Ativ Book 9 Lite review: 'Sleek' and 'budget' hard to mix

Sometimes it's pretty hard to tell what constitutes "low-cost" in a laptop. There are doorbuster, underpowered computers for $300, plenty of perfectly decent bargains for $500, and a wide swath of ultrabooks and gaming PCs that'll get as expensive as you let them. The perfect sweet-spot $799 touch-screen Windows 8 ultrabookhas been made already : we've reviewed several, in fact. But, those configurations tend to get discontinued. The Samsung Ativ Book 9 Lite has a retail list price of $799. 99, but it's now sold most places for $749.

A Curious Mind

I picked up this book because I saw Brian Grazer on The Daily Show, and he seemed humble, fun, and interesting. So I thought the book would be, you know, humble, fun and interesting. Oy! Wrong on all counts. This book is a mess, and if you listen to the audio book, read by Norbert Leo Butz, you will find yourself groaning out loud and wishing your could crawl through your electronic device to throw a drink in his face. Butz’s voice exudes arrogance that oozes through the speaker/earpiece like I picked up this book because I saw Brian Grazer on The Daily Show, and he seemed humble, fun, and interesting.

Malgudi Days

The stories listed here are my favourites in the order of preference. 1. Engine trouble (Lucky enough to win a road roller): This, according to me, is the best of the lot! Here the protagonist wins a road roller as a prize in some fair! The same minute start his troubles when he has to transport the huge vehicle to his home. He has to then pay rent to park the vehicle on a field. He manages to employ a driver, a temple elephant and 50 coolies for transporting it in the midst of an amused crowd ofThe stories listed here are my favourites in the order of preference.

10 Mindful Minutes

This review originally appeared on The Magical Buffet website on 7/30/15. I’ve always liked Goldie Hawn. When I was younger I watched her on “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In”, “Private Benjamin”, “Protocol” (No, dear, I’m not a chicken; I’m an emu. ), “Wildcats”, “Death Becomes Her”, and “First Wives Club”. I like that her and Kurt Russell are still together after all these years. I’m not saying I’m an expert on all things “Goldie”, I’m just saying it came as quite a surprise to find out that she’sThis review originally appeared on The Magical Buffet website on 7/30/15.

Book review: Winner - My Racing Life by AP McCoy

We review the latest installment of champion jockey A P McCoy’s autobiography, Winner – My Racing Life. Published by Orion, November 2015. Hardback.  Available from Amazon, RRP £20. Our reviewer: keen racegoer Chris Smith. What Chris thought:“Two years on, A P McCoy’s 2013 autobiography has been extensively rewritten, retitled and updated to produce this new book – although, inevitably, there is considerable overlap between the two. After all, even AP can have only one life. “What is definitely new is the first chapter – an honest and emotional account of AP’s decision to retire and the ‘farewell tour’ which followed.
